Principle 4 of 8

Respect

Honor your own boundaries and the dignity of others — including the living Earth.

Respect starts with how you treat yourself: honoring your limits, your rhythms, your body and your needs. Boundaries are not walls; they are a way of telling the truth about what you can and cannot carry.

From there, respect extends outward — to the dignity of the people around you, and to the living Earth that sustains us. In the view of the book, these are not separate: the eight principles support your relationships, your work, your humanity and care for Mother Earth.

Where respect is present, relationships become safer places in which to heal.

Reflection

Which boundary would honor you most right now, and how could you hold it with kindness?

These principles come from From Wound to Wisdom, where they form the foundation for deeper inner work. To see how they fit into the healing process, read about Alberto’s approach to healing emotional trauma.

A gentle note. This work is spiritual and educational in nature. It complements, and does not replace, the care of a licensed mental health professional or medical treatment. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis line right away.
